Draft HHS policy on compounding
On Oct 30, 2026, HHS said it won't act against licensed pharmacies that compound certain peptides while the FDA reviews them. News reports say the list includes BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, MOTS-c, Epitalon and Semax. It's a draft, not FDA approval.
Not approved as a medicine by the FDA or EMA (as of October 2026).
Research applications
- Tendon and ligament healing (rat models)
- Muscle injury repair (rat models)
- Gut injury and protection (rat models)
- Tendon cell growth, survival and migration (cell studies)
- A few small human pilot reports without control groups

What it is
BPC-157 is a lab-made peptide, a short chain of 15 amino acids, based on a protein found in stomach juice. Almost all of its research is in rats, looking at how injuries heal. There are very few human studies.
More detail
BPC-157 is a synthetic chain of 15 amino acids. Its sequence comes from a larger protein that researchers described in human gastric juice, which is why papers often call it a stable gastric pentadecapeptide. Most published work comes from a small number of laboratories and uses rats, in models of tendon, ligament, muscle and gut injury; cell studies have looked at how tendon fibroblasts grow, survive and migrate. Human data are very limited: a few small pilot reports without control groups. Systematic and narrative reviews published in 2025 describe the evidence as mainly preclinical and note the need for controlled human trials.

Amounts used in studies
What published studies gave, as each study reports it. Animal amounts are shown as studied and don't translate to people. This is a record of research, not a recommendation: talk to a clinician.
- Animal studyrats, Achilles tendon transection model
Studied at 10 µg/kg, 10 ng/kg or 10 pg/kg, once daily (intraperitoneal)
Three amounts per kg of body weight were compared in rats; the outcome measured was tendon healing.

Studied at 10 µg/kg, 10 ng/kg or 10 pg/kg, once daily (intraperitoneal)
Same laboratory and amounts as the Achilles tendon study, here in a muscle injury model in rats.

Studied at 10 µg/kg/day, once daily (intraperitoneal) for 4 weeks
Exploratory rat study from a group outside the original BPC-157 laboratory; outcomes were tendon histology and strength.

Studied at 10 mg, then 20 mg, one infusion on each of 2 days (intravenous infusion over one hour) for 2 days
Safety pilot in two people with no comparison group; it measured blood work and vital signs, not a health outcome.

Studied at 10 mg, single dose (injections around the inflamed area of the bladder during cystoscopy) for single procedure
Small pilot study with no control group; 10 mg is the total given across the injections of one procedure.
