Draft HHS policy on compounding

On Oct 30, 2026, HHS said it won't act against licensed pharmacies that compound certain peptides while the FDA reviews them. News reports say the list includes BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, MOTS-c, Epitalon and Semax. It's a draft, not FDA approval.

Not approved as a medicine by the FDA or EMA (as of October 2026).

Research applications

  • Telomerase and telomere length (cell studies, including human cell lines)
  • Lifespan (rodent and fruit fly studies)
  • Tumour development (rodent studies)
  • Small, older human studies, many on the parent pineal extract

What it is

Epitalon is a lab-made peptide of four amino acids, developed in Russia. Most research comes from one lab, in animals and cells, looking at aging. Human data are very limited.

More detail

Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide (alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine). It was developed in Russia, based on the amino-acid makeup of epithalamin, an extract of bovine pineal gland. Much of the research comes from one research group in St. Petersburg and includes lifespan and tumour studies in rodents and fruit flies, plus cell studies on telomerase, the enzyme that maintains the protective ends of chromosomes. A 2025 study in human cell lines reported longer telomeres. Human data are sparse and come mostly from older, small studies, many of them on the parent extract, so the evidence base is largely animal and laboratory work.
